Thanks to the design expertise of Archimedia Group and Sydney’s FJMT, the recently refurbished Auckland Art Gallery has won the prestigious title of:
‘World Building of the Year 2013’.
A key feature of this new design is the Coltlite CLS Overlapping Natural/ Smoke Glazed Ventilators which form the façade to the main entry foyer and atrium.
The 4.3m high banks of Coltlite glazed ventilators allow for maximum natural light, and natural ventilation. This transparent façade also frames the large light filled atrium, creating an exhibition space to entice visitors off the street.
WAF judges said: "This is a highly sensitive addition to Auckland Art Gallery which reanimates and reinvigorates the existing building. It responds brilliantly to context and site and gives the gallery a new architectural identity."
By choosing to specify Coltlites CLS Overlapping Louvred Ventilators, the architects gained the reassurance of a performance tested system to EN 12101-2, 12208, 12207, whilst the frameless aesthetic proved to be a stunning architectural feature.
The CLS Overlapping Natural/Smoke Ventilator has a non-thermally broken extruded aluminium outer frame, with frameless controllable overlapping glass louvres. Coltlite is available with pneumatic, manual, or electric controls for the potential to be connected to any building management system.
